Bio-essence Part 2

Posted in Uncategorized by fariwu on December 19, 2010

Bio-essence Platinum BB cream, the second of three BB creams recently launched.

Unlike the Multi-Effect Cream which is 8 in 1, this one is a 10 in 1 worker. Does more mean better?

The effects:

This cream also touts itself as using tanaka to whiten the skin.

I don’t really like the colour because once again, I feel that it gives this greyish tinge, and doesn’t quite blend in to the real colour of my skin, which is more yellow than this. I don’t think my skin is quite suited for BB Creams.

The cream itself is easy enough to work with, whether with fingers or a sponge. Since it’s an all-in-one, it’s pretty much sunscreen (SPF15), moisturizer, concealer, foundation and loose powder all in one.  It doesn’t give as much coverage as the Multi-Effect Cream, but it’s reasonable enough. However, it’s a bit sticky on the face so dusting some loose powder is recommended too. I wouldn’t say I would continue using this though.

The only one that really surprised me was the Aqua BB Cream. I felt like it was the most natural one of the lot that actually gave me better colour than the other two. And the fact that it is hydrating too doesn’t hurt.

Morality

Posted in Uncategorized by fariwu on December 15, 2010

We humans are born emotional beings. It is ingrained in us from the very start.

We learn logic through sources such as schools and other external influences.

So where do we learn morality?

Is it instilled in our brains, mingling our perception of the world?

Or is it implemented into our minds from external sources that

It is the whole Nature V.S. Nurture question:

If we are simply born with it, why would there still be murderers, and rapists, and the like?

If we are nurtured into it, why would we feel a sense of wrongdoing if we do something bad before we are taught it is bad?

The other question is: where exactly does this sense of morality come from?

Who in the first place dictates what is right and what is wrong?

Bio-Essence Part 1

BB Creams have been a recent rage, coming from Japan and Taiwan and Korea. Inevitably, it would have caught on in Singapore and it did, promoting the idea of a miracle worker that contains moisturizing properties, sunblock, concealor and foundation all at once.

Now, yet another brand has launched their own series of BB Creams: Bio-Essence.

3 BB creams that Bio-essence just launched… and an orange??

Here are the three different BB Creams they’ve given.

The Bio Platinum BB Cream, Aqua BB Cream, and Bio Multi-Effect BB Cream. I was rather wondering why they came out with so many different types. From my experience, brands usually just have one or two different types. But for this, each cream combats different issues. Platinum tackles whitening issues, Aqua hydrates the skin and Multi-Effect gives a fuller coverage.

An… orange. Why, exactly did they really give me an orange?

(Pic ripped off Beatricetan.com. Why is her sample tiny? Mine’s full-sized.)

I just happened to read Beatrice’s blog just before that, which usually doesn’t happen, but God works in very mysterious ways. And the instructions also tasked you to try out the cream on it’s ‘pores’ and pockmarks. *shrugs*

Makes me think of Annoying Orange. This is his second cousin, twice removed! I’m naming it Less Annoying Orange (LAO).

The Multi-Effect BB Cream is 8 in 1, and the most important aspects that it boasts is it’s SPF25 (eradicating need for sunblock) and it’s coverage. I suppose that’s where LAO comes in.

As common sense dictates, the top one is the multi-effect one, the middle is the aqua one, and the bottom one is the platinum one. Notice the different shades? The Aqua one is darker because it has no SPF. (I never realized that).

Result: Hey, it really does work the best. I know I shouldn’t be surprised but I really thought they all would give the same results. I tried them on my skin and they gave the same results. As it is, the Aqua one gives a light coverage, the platinum one gives a medium coverage and the multi-effect one gives the heaviest coverage. Best for going out the whole day.

I don’t read Chinese but this magazine showcased BB Creams from 6 different brands. And Bio-Essence came out on top (technically, tied for first place, but still). Everyone, say it with me now, HUR!

All that said though, for me this doesn’t really work too well. I complained once to a friend and makeup-expert that I don’t like using BB Creams because they give my skin this very greyish tinge. She suggested that it might be because of my skin tone. At first I didn’t quite believe her, but eventually I realized she was right.

Bio-Essence Multi-Effect Cream: Has it’s pros and cons, but unfortunately it’s not for me. Sad, but again, God works in mysterious ways.

More coming up soon.

Style Issue: Fifty

Posted in Lists by fariwu on December 3, 2010

Fifty years old. That’s how old a certain American icon is. And while I was browsing through the photos somehow I had in my mind the image of the Vogue editor in Sex and the City going “Our Style Issue: Barbie. Barbie is 50″.

Yes, Barbie the action figure doll. And so here, we present, great style at any age. (Made easier if you’re a timeless piece of plastic)

Donna Karen (together with the big brown bag).

Versace! I’ve seen the original before… I just don’t remember where.

WAH LAU EH. This is why Barbie is so unrealistic. Who comes off an airplane looking like that? Even more, who goes flying in HEELS?

Burberry! I can see the Tardis behind!

No no, it’s just a phone booth.

Man lands on the moon for the first time in 1969 but astronaut Barbie could have done it when she came out in 1965.

HAHAHAHAHA. She looks like she came out from an Austin Powers movie.

Is it me or does the one on the right really look like Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame?

This one’s called Rapper Barbie. HAHA. I think she resembles Beyonce more.

Retro rapunzel-barbie.

Wah lau the smoky eyes damn scary.

Shinyeeeee.

Barbie for president (2004) was black? Foreshadowing the future? She looks a tiny bit like Condolezza Rice.
